Digital TV (digital television) is a technology that ensures the reception of high quality television transmission signals that enable higher resolutions along with greater picture clarity. As yet, there are only a limited number of services across the world that are offering Digital TV, but probably the most comprehensive service for DTV are ones being offered in continental America. However, with the use of DTV, one thing must be kept in mind: that the receiving medium is not a cable, but rather an antenna. Similar to the antenna technologies of the 80’s and the 90’s, the DTV domain suffers from a few of the same issues.
Digital TV Issues
Signals Differ With Geographical Locations
The first thing that must be realized is that Digital TV signals may not be the same for two different geographical regions because certain content providers may or may not be providing programming. Based on this the channels received will be different in different geographical locations. If you end up missing a few channels, then it is no fault of the television set but rather a restricted content policy.
The usage of an antenna also engenders a rather strange problem, which emerges if the antenna is placed wrongly. Any number of factors could be involved in the placement of the antenna, which may cause a problem. However, the most common is generally the presence of a signal shadow such as a large building or a tower nearby. Due to the presence of a large building or a tower or any other such structure, the access to the antenna becomes restricted. Though total reception is never lost as the waves used to transmit Digital TV signals still reach the antenna in some proportion but the level of signals required to produce a crisp image are reduced. In case you experience wavy or otherwise unclear television reception then it is highly likely that your television antenna is being overshadowed.
The best solution in such a case is to relocate the antenna to a new location where the larger structure has lower chances of shadowing the antenna. In case of a building, the safest bet is to place the antenna on top of the building. Placing the antenna on top of the building is pretty much the best possible solution that will work for all circumstances. In case of a nearby tower, especially a communication tower the only real option is to divert the antenna to point the other way.
Weathering of the antenna
Another issue is the weathering of the antenna. Though the antenna may not physically erode but the presence of an antenna for prolonged periods in the open environment may cause a gradual deterioration in service and performance. If the picture quality on your television gradually fades to lower levels, then it is time you changed the antenna. Remember, the gradual period is not a few days or months but rather a few years.
If after inspection, you find out that there are no problems with the antenna, then the problem would lie somewhere along the transmission path which is a wire. Check the connections of the wire with the antenna and the television to ensure that they are secure.
